Request an AppointmentDr. Raja Abbas is the founder of Ethos Clinic, with training in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Geriatric Psychiatry. He established Ethos to provide psychiatric care that considers each patient's symptoms, health history, circumstances, and individual needs.
What began as an individual practice has grown into a multidisciplinary behavioral health team serving patients across Eastern Pennsylvania.
Dr. Asim Rizvi is a psychiatrist who provides care for children and adults. He earned his medical degree from Shifa College of Medicine, completed his general psychiatry residency at Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus, New Jersey, and later completed fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York. He has practiced psychiatry since 2015, including both in-person and telepsychiatry care.
He places importance on helping patients and families understand symptoms, treatment considerations, and available options so they can take an active role in decisions about their care.
I am a graduate of DeSales University where I received Bachelor’s degrees in biology and medical studies in 2002 and a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. I became board-certified in October 2003. It was a long, painful journey at times during my graduate studies, as I realized that I really didn’t like any specialty of medicine. Fortunately, while on my psychiatry rotation, I knew that was my calling.
I have been practicing psychiatry for over 20 years, treating a wide variety of mental health diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, OCD, ADHD, and substance abuse. I have significant experience practicing psychiatry in outpatient, inpatient, long-term care facilities, as well as in a correctional facility setting as well.
I have two sons, 2 dogs, and a ball python. I love wildlife, spending time outdoors, reading, and spending time with my family and my partner.
I would describe my personality as adaptable, compassionate, and empathetic. I am quite unfiltered, so my clients need not filter their thoughts or words, which allows clients, in my opinion, to easily feel at ease and comfortable to open up with. I would also describe myself as I often bring humor, when appropriate, to my sessions. I am very straightforward. I include my clients in decision-making with their treatment and provide patient education on various treatment options. I consider treatment not only with my decision-making, but with the input and opinions from all of my clients.
Kim is dual certified in Pediatrics and Family Practice as a Nurse Practitioner. She has practiced since 1992 as an advanced practice nurse. Her interest in public health has led to her practicing for over 15 years in areas where access to care is critical to patients.
Her passion for working in underserved communities has been a never ending source of growth for her. This includes public clinics, rural health as well as federally funded clinics. This is where Kim discovered her first area of expertise: the care of newborns and their teenaged mothers.
In addition to this, she has had an interest in addictions medicine and had certified for MAT training and care for individuals. Kim has worked closely with psychiatric providers in the past 15 years. Her interest in psychiatric care and addictions medicine has been closely related to her family practice roles. She is passionate about women’s issues as well as the care of children and teenagers in the psychiatric milieu.
Kim is a 1992 graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing; a 1990 graduate of Columbia University with a BSN; a 1992 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania with an MSN in the care of the young family; a 2010 post-master’s certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from The University of Massachusetts Boston; and a 2014 Doctorate of Nursing Practice from The University of Massachusetts Boston with an emphasis in public health. Her capstone project focused on obesity in rural health. The project increased access to specialty care for obese individuals in her rural clinic at that time.
Kim is passionate about working in Carbon County, where she was born and raised. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Robert, and their children and grandchildren.

She strives to provide thoughtful, compassionate, and collaborative care that looks beyond symptoms and supports each patient as a whole.
Dr. Joette Hoffman is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Although her primary role is medication management, holistic care is important to Joette, including the aspect of nurturing the spirit. Joette believes pharmacological therapy is only a partial solution to most mental health disorders.
Since 2014, she has practiced in multiple settings including adult and pediatric outpatient, adult inpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and corrections.
In 2019, Joette graduated from Wilkes University and received the degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice. She is committed to providing patient care with empathy and compassion.
I am currently the Clinical Program Director and see patients in the office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. I have always enjoyed being a therapist and guiding individuals through their journey toward better mental health.
I believe very strongly in eliminating the stigma behind mental illness to ensure everyone seeks services to improve their mental health because no one has to do it alone. I feel it is a privilege to be a part of an individual’s journey and focus on treating the whole person in body, mind and spirit.
I enjoy working with all populations, more specifically the transitional age youth, ages 18 to 23, older adult population, ages 65+, women suffering from Postpartum Depression Disorder, and Couples Counseling.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from DeSales University and my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Marywood University, as well as I hold a PA license in Clinical Social Work. My work history includes working with crime victims, sexual assault/abuse survivors, pregnant women, crisis work in an ED, older adult population in a hospital setting, case management, patients with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, trauma and personality disorders.
My main therapeutic technique includes psychodynamic therapy along with CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; Solution Focused Therapy; Person-Centered Therapy; Motivational Interviewing; and Assertiveness Training.
You will often see a mini poodle, Sasha or Penelope, with me in my office as I work toward getting them certified as therapy dogs because animals bring unconditional love and support to patients and are an asset to any therapeutic process.
I have been married for 27 years, have two boys, age 18 and 22, and care for my aging mother. My hobbies include biking, kayaking, reading, walking and spending time with friends and family.
She has always had a passion to help others. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in social work from Widener University in 1995, her graduate degree from Marywood University in 2000, and her LSW in 2009.
She started her career working with older adults in an array of settings: nursing home, physical rehab, home care, and inpatient older adult units. She had the privilege of meeting Dr. Abbas in the inpatient Older Adult Unit in Palmerton where she worked as a caseworker and counselor, and she joined his outpatient mental health practice in 2015.
She has obtained training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength Based Therapy, Grief and Loss, Effective Communication with Couples, Narcissistic Abuse, Mental Health During Menopause, and others. She enjoys working with individuals 18 years and older as well as couples.
She truly loves helping improve their understanding of their mental health diagnosis, developing effective coping skills to minimize symptoms, identify individual strengths, improve communication by expressing needs, wants, expectations, and boundaries, accepting grief and learning to live after loss, reframing unhealthy thinking patterns, and learning compassion and acceptance during menopause and the aging processes.
She has been married 25 years and has two adult children. Her hobbies include camping, fishing, reading, listening to music, spending time with family, and enjoying the beach.
Jenna is a Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, that holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Arizona State University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College.
Jenna is committed to destigmatizing mental health, promoting holistic wellness, and using psychoeducation to aid in treatment. Jenna uses a person-centered psychodynamic approach and most enjoys utilizing CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems to help clients reflect on their lives, improve self-understanding, reduce negative symptoms, and to find peace.
Jenna is observed as non-judgmental, kind, and very patient. In her personal life, Jenna enjoys travel, reading, comedy shows, exploring nature, and spending time with her two little boys.
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy, both from Cedar Crest College, with 13 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have training in IFS, Internal Family Systems Therapy.
I believe in creating positive coping skills and self-care habits which are valuable to one’s mental health. I offer a space to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and emotions without judgment. I offer an empathetic approach that encourages clients to utilize and foster their inner strengths, allowing you to feel validated through your own words and artwork.
The areas of therapy I specialize in include anxiety and depression, coping skill exploration, mindfulness, self-awareness, emotional regulation and spiritual healing/guidance connecting to self.
Since I was young, I’ve always wanted a career where I can help people. As such, my ambition was to be a teacher. I followed that path through grad school and even obtained my teaching certification for Social Studies.
From there, I went to work in a school for children with social, emotional and behavioral struggles. This was my first experience in mental health and counseling.
My next move was family-based therapy where I was a case manager and co-therapist. While there, I was able to further develop my clinical skills with the guidance of my supervisor and lead therapist on my team. I was able to use these skills at my next position as a behavior specialist for adults with intellectual disabilities.
During this time, I took a more therapeutic approach to creating interventions and used my skills as a case manager to help the individuals I supported obtain additional services in the community. All of these skills have prepared me for outpatient therapy here at Ethos.
It has long been a goal of mine to practice mental health in Carbon County, where I was born and raised, and now that I have achieved that, I hope to help those in the area find ways to better themselves and their lives.
I specialize in family issues, parent/child relationships, couples counseling, parenting skills, as well as substance abuse.

I also focus on many self-compassion techniques with my clients. We tend to talk to and treat ourselves more critically than our friends and family members. Self-compassion teaches us how to talk kindly to ourselves.
